Can I use Plottr if I use Scrivener?

Absolutely! Plottr is an elegant visual tool for planning and outlining your books, whereas Scrivener is a professional writing application.

With Plottr, you can even export your files directly as Scrivener files (with your chapter and scene card info) to make it easier than ever to get to writing!

Can I write my story in Plottr?

You can (sort of), but that’s not what it’s built for at this time.

Can I collaborate on a Plottr file with a co-author or editor?

Yes! You can share your file with anyone who has Plottr by hosting it on a cloud-based file sharing service like Dropbox or Google Drive. Any edits your collaborators make in the shared Plottr file will display on your end when you open the file.

However, we do NOT currently recommend working on the file with a collaborator at the same time to prevent overwriting each other’s changes.

What devices does Plottr work on?

Plottr currently works on Mac & Windows desktops and laptops. There are also iPhone and Android apps, and it can be used on Windows tablets.

While you can technically download and use Plottr on an iPad, the app is not meant for that size. However, an awesome experience on the iPad is in the works!

Do I need an internet connection to use Plottr?

Nope! Once Plottr is installed on your computer, you can always save and access your files. However, you will need an internet connection to receive updates.

    How do I install Plottr?

Why does Plottr keep asking me to activate my license key?

If you’re experiencing this behavior, please make sure to quit your Plottr installer and restart the app. The problem should be solved!

Where can I find the latest updates to Plottr?

You can find the latest updates to Plottr in our changelog.

How can I install the latest update(s) to Plottr?

Plottr automatically checks for an update whenever you open it. However, to manually check for updates, visit the Plottr menu and click Check for Updates:

You can also re-download Plottr from your account to access the latest version.

Note: Updating Plottr will not have any impact on your existing files.
